I found my wonderful dog, Charlie, through the wonders of Facebook. A friend of mine had been supporting Elpida for some time. One day, Charlie’s handsome face appeared on the screen and I knew I just had to see if it were possible to get him. I have to say, it appeared to be a long-shot! I contacted Elpida by email and had a really helpful chat with Malin who explained that Charlie would be coming back to the UK for re-homing. It was planned that he would go to Retriever Rescue in the first instance so that the best possible home could be found for him. Malin was really supportive and said that I should speak to Retriever Rescue as soon as possible as Charlie was leaving for the UK shortly. I spoke to Jan at Retriever Rescue who told me that there was a waiting list and that Charlie would need to be assessed before they could decide on a suitable owner. I didn’t think I would have much hope of getting him as I was sure that there would be a very long waiting list for a dog as beautiful as Charlie, so I resigned myself to the fact that I probably wouldn’t be lucky enough to be his new owner. However, a couple of weeks or so later, I opened an email from Jan saying that if I was still interested in Charlie I should come along and meet him with my dog Beanie, to see how we all got along. I very excitedly agreed to make the journey the next weekend. It was a very long 6 hour journey to the kennels. I was very anxious that something would go wrong or that Beanie wouldn’t like him – I knew that I loved him already! I needn’t have worried as the two boys got along very well and I just had to hope that Jan would consider me as a suitable owner. Thankfully she did and I threw my arms around her when she said I could take Charlie home! He has been with me now for only a week and already he has settled in well and is part of the family. I am so grateful to Elpida – I had terrific support and I have a wonderful dog. Thank you so much!! |
