volga - NOW ADOPTED
Age: Born approx. October 2010
Live with Dogs: Yes, preferably male. Experienced owner needed.
Volga is a beautiful adult female, with very expressive eyes and a soft coat that invites you for cuddles. Volga came to the shelter in March 2013, after she was found on the streets what appeared to be in discomfort. After a visit at the vet, it was confirmed that she had a ruptured eardrum as a result of an infection caused by thorns. The thorns were removed and the wounds healed and the infection was treated. Her ear is checked on a regular basis, to prevent future infections, which could cause damage to her hearing.
Not long after Volga came to the shelter, she made best friends with Filos, our gentle giant. It was a match made in heaven and Volga, who felt insecure in her new surroundings, felt safe when around him. The two had such a strong bond, that the aim was to home them together, as we didn’t want to separate them. The lived, slept and ate together, and Volga seemed happy to stay in the background, with Filos being the one craving attention, and Volga was happy with stealing a cuddle every now and then.
Sadly, Filos passed away in August 2014 and left Volga alone. Her happily ever after with him just wasn’t meant to be. So now we are determined to try and find her her own forever home.
Volga is still quite scared outside the security of the shelter, so an experienced owner who can help her overcome this would be the best for her. We expect her to do well with older children, who understands the importance of giving her space and time. She would probably benefit greatly from a male companion who is secure and calm and can show her the outside world with confidence. Volga does guard her food and possibly snacks and toys as well so it is important that this is taken in to consideration, and that she is given space to enjoy what was given to her, and slowly but surely let her get used to the fact that there is plenty enough to share.
Despite this, we hope that someone will fall in love with our Volga, and that she can be given a bright future, even if this is without her beloved Filos.
